Analysis Post - Cedric Delsaux

This is a  picture taken by Cedric Delsaux for his 'Dark Lens' collection, for this collection, Cedric took photographs in central Paris and then put Star Wars characters in the photographs, the photos are hyper-realistic and they are also and example of the fourth plinth. The star wars characters aren't meant to be in central Paris, although personally I think that the photo looks really good, I like how dark this photo is and that you can only see the silhouette of Darth Vader. The placement doesn't look like somewhere that you would find a Star Wars character and I think that makes the photo even better.

This is another photo by Cedric Delsaux, personally I really like this photo, although I don't usually like the idea of the fourth plinth. I think this was done really well and I think that the colours go together really well. I can tell that Delsaux has really thought about this. The bright whites and greys all go together really well with the odd little black bits on the stormtroopers. Although we can tell that this photo is of a road under a bridge, I think that the stormtroopers being there almost tricks me into thinking that it is part of the Star Wars set.

This is a photo of AT-AT by Cedric Delsaux, I like how subtle but obvious it is, when you first look at the photo you might just mistake the object for dark smoke, however when properly looking at it, it is quite obvious that it is AT-AT. This photo was taken in Dubai, which obviously isn't where Star Wars is set. The fact that there isn't any other characters in the photo as well is good, it makes the photo more subtle.

This photograph of an urban landscape by Rut Blees Luxemburg is very good in my opinion, I love the colours that she uses, it makes the photo look like it was taken at night and lit artificially, which it likely was. I also like the hight and angle it was taken at, the birds eye view angle was very well used because it shows the cars at the bottom, it also gives a sense of mystery because we don't know what sort of building this was taken, it could've been a car park or it could've been a block of flats. This photo is called 'Vertiginous Exhilaration' - Vertigo is the sensation that the space around you is moving or spinning and many people get this from being at great heights, it makes it hard to stand and you are more likely to fall over if you have vertigo. The title is related to Vertigo and makes you think that the photographer felt as though they were going to fall.

This is another landscape by Luxemburg, I love this photograph, the colours she has used in this photograph are very warm browns, reds and yellows that make it look old and cosy, the colours used are similar to the sepia filter used in very old photographs. I also love that this was taken in the late evening, when some people have their lights on and some people have them off because they are asleep, it makes you feel like you have some sort of connection with them. The photograph is called 'Towering Inferno' which is why she used the warm reds and oranges I think.

This is a photo of another urban landscape by Luxemburg, I can tell she has used a slow shutter speed for this photo because I can see car headlights going past in a line but no cars. I think this photo is lovely because it is showing rather warm colours from the cars on the road that is a dark grey or greenish, the majority of this photo has quite cool colours. I think it is interesting that she has got a photograph of playgrounds next to motorway as this isn't a common occurrence in many places. This photo is called 'A Modern Project', I think she called the photo that because it shows so much modernisation with the roads and the fact that the whole photo is lit up by street lamps.

Rut Blees Luxemburg is a German photographer who takes photos in London, these photos are usually taken at night. She uses long exposure so that she can use the light emitted from London instead of using her own light, long exposure makes the lights look like they are glowing. She uses a 5 x 4 camera that 'requires slowness'. The colours and tones she uses makes her work recognisable in an instant because of the cold greens/blues next to the warm oranges and reds.

This photo is a portrait of Jude Law by David Bailey, I think its really well taken and I especially like the contrast of the sides of his face, one side is completely lit and the other side is quite dark, it shows both sides of his personality which looks really good.

This photo was taken by Alec Soth, it is really good in my opinion because it has caught the subject in the middle of doing something, this means it's a lot more natural than a photo like David Baileys because the subject didn't pose for it. I also like that it was taken outdoors because it shows all of the natural clutter that is in people's lives.

This photo is of Angelina Jolie by Annie Leibovitz and it has a huge amount of negative space, this means that your eye is dragged towards her face. I think this photo looks really nice because her face is in a lot of detail.

Photos by Thomas Ruff like this one, are typically deadpan. I think this looks good because it is so simple, although these photos could be taken in someplace like a Photo Booth for example, I think the lighting would probably be better in this photo as it is changed specifically for the person. For example, we can tell that in this photo the light was above him a bit because there are shadows from his eyebrow bone, you might not get that effect in a photo booth.

This photograph of John Lennon and Paul McCartney was taken by David Bailey, I really like his work and I think this piece is good, however I do prefer the one of Jude Law because I think the lighting is more interesting in that one. However this is also good in my opinion because it portrays them as very positive people - there aren't many shadows on their face's unlike Jude Laws portrait.

This is an example of a joiner, it is one of the joiners made by David Hockney, who was the creator of joiners, I like this style of photography because it shows a lot of movement, the boy obviously moved around a lot during this photo-shoot which creates the affect that there is a lot of people.

This is another example of a joiner, however it is a digitally made joiner, it is also different because the photographs overlap each other, I think this looks quite good but I prefer David Hockney's version of joiners personally because I think it looks better, this looks too perfect, everything fits together and there aren't really lines out of place in the photographs.

This is another example of a joiner by David Hockney, I think this looks good because although we can see what the photograph is about, we don't really know what is going on because it's quite cluttered, I can't tell if it's on the table or if it's on floor for example.

This example of joiner photography was most likely made on photoshop, I like this quite a lot because it is more like David Hockney's joiner works, the picture is a lot more messed up than the other one I looked at that was done on photoshop.

This joiner is really nice in my opinion because you can tell what it is meant to be and it mostly fits together, there are bits of the face that aren't right but it looks good, as if the person has moved whilst the photos being taken, however the arms are mostly in proportion and fit together quite well.

This photograph is very well taken in my opinion because it has quite a shallow depth of field which works really well, we can see the man standing in very good focus but the background of the photo quickly gets out of focus after the man. I like this photograph because it isn't over or underexposed.

This photo is of a dog, it is in very good focus and shows shallow depth of field really well, I like this photo a lot because there isn't any motion that ruins it and it's not over exposed and looks slightly dreary.

This photo was taken using a wide depth of field, it's good because you can see all the details of the flowers as well as the globe structure and the sky. I think on some photos like this one a wide depth of field looks better because it shows you everything in the photograph.

This example of wide depth of field works really well because the background is as important as the foreground, blurring some of the foreground would mean the eye would be dragged to the background or whatever object is in focus, although this works well for photographs with something in it that stands out, it doesn't work very well for photographs of landscapes like this.

I like this photograph because I think it looks really nice, it's very simple and the photo isn't cluttered at all, we can see the dandelion is the main focus of this photo and anything else isn't important to the photo, this photograph inspires me to take more photographs using shallow depth of field because it can  look really good if done well like this one.

I like this photograph because of the contrast, the train is moving very fast as we can see but the seat is completely still which looks really good next to each other, this photograph is well taken as it is not over exposed so we can see everything in normal colour, it is also not shaky which can sometimes happen when you make the shutter speed slower to get pictures like this, I think the photographer probably used a tripod which improves the photo immensely.

I like this example of motion because of the lights on the car and how they are moving as well as the cars, I think this looks really good, this photo inspires me to go out and take photos of cars as they can create really good motion examples if you do it right. However this photos a bit shaky as you can see from the buildings because they are also showing a bit of movement. This can be fixed if you use a tripod so I think I will definitely use one.

I think this example of motion photography looks really good because of the contrast between the woman and the train, it almost looks fake, she is in perfect quality whilst the train is very blurred, the photographer obviously knew what he was doing when he took this because the photo is very well taken and framed, she is not in the centre which can look really bad, she is on one of the rule of thirds lines.

I think this photo looks especially good because the only thing showing movement is the bus, I think this looks good because the rest of the photograph is very still which shows me that the photographer wasn't shaky and took the photo well

This photo shows a lot of motion because the aisles have a motion blur which shows that there is quite a lot of speed going on, it makes the trolley seem like it's going faster than it probably is, I really think that it looks good because it is quite a casual photograph, it's not been framed perfectly but it still creates a good effect.

I really like this photograph because I think it shows reflection just subtly enough, it is only a faint reflection of the sky which I like because it is just the colours really, I also think the silhouette of the man looks good especially with the reflection.

This is a less subtle photograph showing reflection but I really like it because it is not just a straight reflection, it is slightly morphed because of the shape of the object, this makes the people and the buildings look odd.

I really like this photograph because it isn't very subtle. I think the lights are the thing that drags your eyes the most, however the reflection just adds to the photograph and makes it look even better than it would on its own, it makes the photo more unique.

I think this photo looks good because it isn't obviously reflection, it is a very sharp photo which drags your eyes to the shapes in it, the angle the photo was taken in makes the buildings look triangular which isn't a regular building shape. the reflection makes the photo better in my opinion as it makes the building less contrasted.

The colours in this photo are what attracted me to it the most, yellow is a very bright colour and it happens to be a main part of the photograph, this matches with the green of the water and I think that looks very good.

This photo shows a variety of shapes and lines, the tallest building looks like a triangle from this angle however it is actually a rectangle building, the other buildings also look like geometric shapes, this picture doesn't have many irregular shapes other than the clouds, however they are in the negative space.

This photo is of a leaf with a frog on the top, I think the frog would be the negative shape in this photo as it is the shadow of the frog rather than the actual frog. The negative space is the main focus of this photo which I think looks nice.

This photo is a silhouette of a man walking with some camels, in this photo the sky would be the negative space because the camels is what your eye is drawn too mostly, however the camels could also be the negative space as your eyes are also drawn to the sun in the background.

This photo is of salt and pepper pots, although this is the main part of the photograph, I think the background shows shape better as it is quite nice and detailed. It could also show pattern.

This photograph is of a few buildings, I think they look good because of the angle they've been taken from, it makes them look more morphed than they usually do, they don't look like their usual shape and some of them even look triangular.

I like this photo because I can really see the tone of this photo, it's not the best one of the five, I like photographs of nature like this, flowers are probably my favourite.

I love this photograph because the Rock has a lot of tone, the shadows look good on it but the sky looks odd, I think that it looks quite off putting and it drags your eye away from the rock which is the main object in my opinion.

I like this photograph because it's focus is very well done. I think that the tone is nice but it's a very dark photograph.

I like this photograph because it shows form very well, I like that it shows the light shining from the back right, it makes the shape very defined.

I like the lighting in this photograph, it makes the bike seem very reflective, it also makes the shape look very 3D, some photographs look very 2D because the lighting is straight on and that makes the subject have no shadows on it so it looks flat.

This photo shows a lot of form, I love that you can see the bones in the back and that the lighting means that the bones cause shadows, I also like the curve of the light acres the leg, it makes the photograph very 3D and I like that I can tell that it's not just a flat photograph.

I found this photograph, I think that it shows form pretty well, we can see that the light is shining down on the subject from the top, this means that the shadow on the surface isn't too big and the back of the banana is darker, causing it to look more 3D.

This is a good example of form, although I'm not sure about the shininess, I think that might ruin it a bit. However, in my opinion, this shows form very well, the light shining on it causes a lot of reflection and brightness, which means we can see that its not flat.

This example of texture is really nice because its quite simple, although the stones might not all be the same size or shape they look more or less identical from this angle, I also like that the photo isn't just pattern and that there are other objects that drag your eye like the drain and the bike.

I like this photo because it's not perfect, the shapes aren't all the same size which I think looks quite nice, it's quite refreshing with the bright colours as well.

This pattern repeats lots of times, both as the brick work and as the light shining on the floor. I like this because you can see the pattern repeats all the way round, the ceiling also repeats which looks great swell.

This example of pattern is nice because its repeating itself a lot but the pattern isn't identical. I like it because it's quite eerie as the colour is muted.

This pattern is not very identical, I think it looks great though because its so odd. Some of the  windows have a duller colour which is quite off-putting as it's not all the same colour, but other than that it looks great.
